Just a quick note to say that there will be an Xmas Bash this year, but I will not be hosting it. Friend of the website Casey Roberson is taking over as host, handling the programming, and probably doing other things that can’t be mentioned in polite company. (Friend of the website Adam Lore has provided the promotional artwork.)
The event benefits The Trevor Project and seems like it will consist of similar content to previous Bash events. I say “seems like” because I have no idea what you will or won’t see, so that will be a nice change of pace for me.
TV episodes, music, chat, nonsense, the whole nine yards.
You can register at this Facebook link, where more information will be posted as it becomes available. I hope you are all well and I hope to see you there. Thank you.
I found the first article I could that had an open comment section. Selfishly, I just felt like I had to say something. Earlier yesterday afternoon, I came to the site hoping to find a new update. Perhaps a new Better Call Saul review, perhaps a new ‘Fight, Megaman!’ article. But instead, I found your goodbye post. It was heartbreaking.
You’ll never read this, but I’m just so sorry that it had to come to this. You and I weren’t friends by the classic definition, but we were friendly. We communicated here and there for almost 13 years. A YouTube comment here, an email there, a comment here on NoiselessChatter. No matter the years between our last correspondence, you always remembered who I was and you always treated me warmly. You were a gifted writer and comedian. I wish that your YouTube channel still existed as your videos kept me entertained and kept me company for many years. I told my wife tonight how I have such fond memories of watching your Mega Man No Damage Runs and your Willy Wonka video essay and how they gave me comfort during some unpleasant times in my life. How I still, to this day, watch and laugh at your Save State Gamer videos. I wouldn’t have expected to be affected by this as much as I am. I just feel sad. I hope that in the end, you knew that you made a difference to a lot of people. That you mattered.
I’ll miss you, Phil. Goodbye.
Logging onto the blog and seeing that goodbye post just hit me like a ton of bricks. I must’ve read and re-read the entirety of your ALF reviews five or six times over, and laughed my fucking ass off just as hard every single time. You were such an incredibly gifted writer, and I want to thank you for sharing your work with all of us. My only hope is that you’ve found some much deserved peace, and that some part of you knew how much you and your writing mattered to so many people.
Had to pay my respects to a legend.
This is so shocking and tragic. Haven’t been this gutted by the death of someone I never met in a while. Phil was one of a kind. An absolutely brilliant writer, capable of switching from hilarious to insightful in an instant. The ALF reviews and Save State Gamer videos have provided me with hours of entertainment. Been a huge fan for over a decade. Major inspiration to me, and an extremely nice guy.
I echo the above: I sincerely hope Phil knew that he was beloved. I genuinely think he was one of the most talented people I’ve ever seen on the internet, and he more than deserved fame and fortune and all that stuff. If you read his writing, you felt like he was a friend. His work was a major pick-me-up whenever I’d be feeling down. It hurts that we’ll never see any more of his insights, but I hope he’s free of the undeserved demons he carried. It’s the least he deserves.
Rest In Peace, Philip J. Reed. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. It won’t be forgotten.
This is so sad. Phil was such a phenomenal writer and I feel like he deserved so much more than what he had.
I only learned of this blog last year, and once I burned through the ALF reviews and started on his other pieces I realized the breadth of insight he was capable of in just about anything he wrote.
10 years worth of amazing, inspiring work here. I don’t know how WordPress operates but I feel like there’s so much here that shouldn’t be lost to the internet if the site does shut down next year.
I’ve never known what it’s like to miss a person I’ve never met until now. I hope Phil found the peace he was searching for.
I’m not exaggerating when I say Noiseless Chatter was the best blog-type site on the Internet. And that’s entirely because of Phillip. Everything the above commenters have said is true and then some. His ALF reviews are still the funniest thing I’ve ever read online, possibly the funniest thing I’ve read period (and I’ve read John Schwartzwelder’s novels! Phillip was even funnier than that). His analyses like Fight, Megaman! and Fiction Into Film were similarly near the peak of their genre. The fact that it was all produced by a man struggling as much as Phillip (openly) was is staggering. Combine this with the good heart he repeatedly displayed and I can’t think of many people — or at least many Internet strangers — who I’d rather have around today. I hope the pain is over now, at least.
Since this site will disappear at the end of the year, I’ve made a blogspot site (https://noiselesschatterarchive.blogspot.com) and started copying its content there. It deserves to be preserved. I’ve started with the ALF reviews, but I don’t think I can copy over everything myself in 5 months. If anybody else can help in any way I’d gladly welcome it. My goal is for little to none of Phillip’s work here to be lost to time.
I was going to copy all the ALF reviews to a Google Doc for myself before the end of the year, but creating a mirror blog for all to appreciate is a much more noble effort. I would love to help. Hit me up: mikeamato.inc@gmail.com
I don’t know much about archiving but I’d also like to help in any way I can. It would be a shame to let any of Philip’s work be lost to time.

I just heard the tragic news; i am absolutely gutted. You will be missed beyond measure, Phil. I want to say more, but i honestly am at a loss for words. RIP.
Hello, I wanted to share this information for his friends.
I’m sorry if it is already posted.

Phil, thank you for the 13 years of laughter and joy you provided me. Between your YouTube videos and posts on this blog you provided me a funny escape through some difficult times. I only wish I could’ve helped you through yours. Rest easy my friend.
Hello all –
The celebration of life service for Philip was held this past Saturday. You can watch the video of the service here:
https://www.facebook.com/100064042235236/videos/632210934988501
I have a copy of the recording, and I will make it available in some way for those not on Facebook.
Thanks, Casey. It doesn’t appear to be available for public viewing, unfortunately.
Hello Casey,
Unfortunately unable to view the video, it’s possible it’s not on public.
I would love to see the service, I wish had been there to say a proper goodbye.
Hey Sarah, and also everybody,
Sorry for the silence on this end. I’ve been moving and starting a new job. I do have the video file for the service, as well as the slideshow that was playing during. I will make them available to view somewhere and somewhen, and I’ll post here in the comments when it’s viewable. In the meantime, we are going to do two Bashes this year. One will be a retrospective on October 29, with as much material from previous Bashes as I was able to get my hands on, and then the regular Bash on December 29. So I’m mainly working on those at the moment. They will both be on Discord, and you can join us here:

I hope you will, and I hope you are all well. Losing Philip is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, and if anyone knew we didn’t have to be alone with our struggles, it was Philip. I hope you can all come to either or both Bashes.
ACK. Not December 29. December 17.
“This video is no longer available”
Has it been archived yet..?
Maybe my FB settings are different but the link opens for me. Not sure if it will help but the video is on the “Stork-Bullock Family Mortuary” page on Facebook, dated August 13.
Odd, I can’t find that Facebook page. Perhaps it’s country restricted or something.
Wow pretty floored come here after finally catching up on Better Call Saul and wanted to read his reaction. He had a terrific way of analyzing what was going on, much deeper than me. And a memory to recall so many things. I also enjoyed his Life Aquatic posts. That’s a hard hit to read his final post. I hope he has found the peace he was looking for. This life is not easy and a good reminder to be kind to those you meet as you never know what they struggle through. RIP and Thank you. Capt. Bill
